Legal counselling

DRC offers legal counselling

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) offers independent and professional legal counselling to asylum seekers and refugees in Denmark, who have or are at risk of having terminated their residence permits.

The aim of the counselling is to safeguard the rights of asylum seekers and refugees as well as to ensure that people have had the possibility to understand their situation and know about the possibility of staying in Denmark.

Counselling throughout the procedure

Asylum seekers, who have just arrived in Denmark, can get early counselling about the Danish asylum procedure from Danish Refugee Council (DRC). The counselling takes place at Sandholm Reception Centre, and it is part of the obligatory information sessions for newly arrived asylum seekers.

DRC provides counselling at asylum centres around Denmark and offers counselling throughout the asylum procedure. We also provide counselling over the phone, video, and at personal meetings at the office on Lyngbyvej 100, as well as in detention facilities and prisons.

The legal counselling covers counselling about the asylum procedure in Denmark, the rules and practice for being granted asylum, as well as some information about other types of residence permits. We also provide counselling about rules, procedures, and practice in relation to denial of extension or revocation of a residence permit.

We also offer counselling after a final rejection of an asylum application, including about the possibilities for having a case reassessed.

You are always welcome to contact us, if you have questions about the asylum procedure or need for counselling about your case. You can ask the personnel at the asylum centres or in the prison to arrange a meeting with us.

Counselling from DRC is free of charge and the counselling can be anonymous.

All DRC staff are bound by the duty of confidentiality. That means that you can talk with us about anything – even confidential or personal information that you do not wish for other people or the authorities to know about.
